PAGE LAYOUTS / EXPERIMENTS - 4.05.2014.

Here are some more developments for page layout ideas. I scanned in some sections of a couple of scarves that belonged to my Grandmother and placed them alongside the more simple collages. I'm not too sure how I feel about them to be honest. Part of me feels like they work and the other half feels like they don't! Maybe I should try placing them next to my other images or even some of the photographs to see if that works better. 

I quite like the third one down where I have put two collages together. I think this could work nicely as a double page spread within a book or even as an A3/A2 print. I started introducing my photos from Italy since I was unsure as to how to use them within this work. I think they work really well when next to my collages or even another photo, as seen with the angel statues. These are all places and monuments that my Grandmother would have visited, spent time in and taken her family to numerous times throughout her life and bind my images together nicely.  

EXPERIMENTS - 4.05.2014.

These are a couple of images that I have been playing around with. You might recognise the second one from my previous post where I had incorporated text into the image as well. I thought these would be nice to have next to some of my more cinematic/powerful collages since I plan to turn this into a book for my exhibition space. I think it would be interesting to have a mixture of full bleed imagery and simple collages like these throughout the book. 

TOLFA / ROMA '14 - 18.04.2014.

Its been a while but here are a few of my favourite photos from my recent trip to Italy! I haven't uploaded them all since there are so many but I will definitely include them in a little holder when it comes to hand in. Before I had come to deciding that the project about my Grandmother was what I wanted to focus on, I had planned on using these photos for another project relating to what Italy means to me and maybe to others too. But with the time scale of things and my strong interest in my Grandmother I decided to leave this for another time. I think this project could have turned into something forever ongoing which I could carry on way after graduation. This excites me since I am extremely happy with how the photos turned out and look forward to being able to put them towards something new in the near future. 

DISTORTION 5 - 11.04.2014.

I've been trying out different ways to portray my Grandmothers lack of identity and this image is one of my favourites so far. I wanted to keep it as subtle as possible to contrast the longer more busy images I'd made before. The small shots of colour running through the photo keep the dream like quality to it as well as the half blurred face. I think this would be a good image to have blown up and printed out to either A2 or A1 in size. 

DISTORTION 4 - 11.04.2014.

I chose to crop in on a section of the bigger scan of this so I could work more closely on top of it. I played around with layering different sections of the longer image over the top to create these slightly strange ghostly images. The first one is my favourite from the three since I layered a small portion of colour over the top which adds a nice quality to it. Again these images all relate to my Grandmother's identity, or lack of in a way.

DISTORTION 3 - 27.03.2014.

These are the bigger and longer versions of the cropped in images I had previously shared. I particularly like the second and third one down since the colours work really well together as well as how the repetition of my Grandmothers face has created a melancholic quality to it. I'd like to see if I can try and merge these two together even though there is a big colour difference, one being so light and the other being almost blacked out, but it would be interesting to see if I could fade one into the other.
