DEVELOPMENT - 28.04.2014.

I decided to take a step back from my current work since I am happy with the images that I have already made thus far and didn't want to keep editing them to the point where they become overworked. I wanted to experiment with using shapes to create some more abstract pieces. I played around with adding a little bit of text which I really like and would like to explore this further by using different words perhaps and maybe a repeat pattern. I think these would work nicely within one of the book format ideas I previously spoke about to break up the imagery slightly too.

GRADUATE SHOW / FINAL IDEAS - 28.04.2014.

I've been thinking a lot about how I could present my work for the graduate show this coming July and I have so many ideas that the best thing for me to do is to write them all down!

Final Piece Ideas

- Display nice memory images of Grandmother on the wall, framed. Have a book made up for the distorted images, hinting at the 'other side' of the narrative.

- Have both narratives printed out + framed. Hang up in the space in two parallel lines.

- Make a series of concertina booklets for separate studies. Display on their own display units, preferably floating shelves.

MOTION BLUR - 18.04.2014.

Here are some different variations for the top image that I made a few days ago. I'm always keeping in mind the lack of identity that my Grandmother would have felt being an orphan  and displaying this through the distortion of certain images. The distortions and changes I make are sometimes quite obvious and some have been very slight, almost blending into the original photo itself. I like having the contrast of the two so I have been making sure that I have kept that balance running through this side of the narration.

TOLFA / ROMA '14 - 18.04.2014.

Its been a while but here are a few of my favourite photos from my recent trip to Italy! I haven't uploaded them all since there are so many but I will definitely include them in a little holder when it comes to hand in. Before I had come to deciding that the project about my Grandmother was what I wanted to focus on, I had planned on using these photos for another project relating to what Italy means to me and maybe to others too. But with the time scale of things and my strong interest in my Grandmother I decided to leave this for another time. I think this project could have turned into something forever ongoing which I could carry on way after graduation. This excites me since I am extremely happy with how the photos turned out and look forward to being able to put them towards something new in the near future.

BELONGINGS - 11.04.2014.

I thought it would be interesting to create some collages by using the few belongings that I have of my Grandmother I don't have many items left other than photos, a couple of purses, some jewellery and a watch. For this collage I scanned in a pair of her gloves that she'd used for her communion since I really liked the lace fabric and wanted to see what it would look like after being scanned. I manipulated the image by moving it whist in the scanner then afterwards I played around with the smudge tool on PhotoShop as well as adding layers of colour.

POSTCARDS - 11.04.2014.

Here are a few scans of some of the postcards that I bought whilst in Italy. They all range from photographs, images of Italy to exotic countries. I think that some of these would work really well amongst my current imagery or worked into other images too. A lot of them have writing on the back too so I am excited to play around with the text to see how I can use it in my own work.

DISTORTION 5 - 11.04.2014.

I've been trying out different ways to portray my Grandmothers lack of identity and this image is one of my favourites so far. I wanted to keep it as subtle as possible to contrast the longer more busy images I'd made before. The small shots of colour running through the photo keep the dream like quality to it as well as the half blurred face. I think this would be a good image to have blown up and printed out to either A2 or A1 in size.

UPDATE - 10.04.2014.

After a week in Italy taking photos for this project, I am back! It was extremely helpful going down to be able to visit places where my Grandmother worked and lived and I'm very excited to develop my photos tomorrow to see what I managed to capture whilst away. As well as having taken photos I stumbled upon a small flea market where I purchased 40 postcards/photos for only €4!! I'm extremely excited to use them within my work and will scan a few of them in to show on here. In the meantime I am going to post up a few bits of work which I had made prior to my holiday but didn't have a chance to share!
